At the University of Pikeville and Tanner College of Dental Medicine (TCDM), innovation and excellence drive our approach to preparing the next generation of health professionals. The University of Pikeville invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Dental Public Health for the Tanner College of Dental Medicine. This critical faculty member is envisioned to provide exceptional and innovative teaching, community-engaged interprofessional care, and scholarly activities that address oral health disparities and population-based needs.
Responsibilities:
Teaching and Instruction
- Deliver integrative, case-based instruction in public health dentistry, community-based oral health, and prevention to predoctoral dental students, and additional learners as assigned.
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to ensure high-quality education that supports the integrated dental curriculum and emphasizes the principles of public health and community engagement.
Clinical Services and Program Development
- Provide consultation and oversight for community-based dental education experiences within the student clinic and external community sites.
- Develop and implement protocols, outreach initiatives, and preventive strategies based on evidence-based recommendations to improve access to oral health care for underserved populations.
- Support the integration of public health principles into patient care workflows and student clinical training.
Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Engagement
- Collaborate with other divisions in the Departments of Oral Health Science and Oral Health Practice in teaching, community-based clinical care, and scholarly activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues from other health profession education programs to promote interprofessional education and interdisciplinary patient care in underserved and rural communities.
Service, Scholarship, and Leadership
- Contribute service and scholarly expertise to fulfill the mission of the Tanner College of Dental Medicine.
- Engage in institutional initiatives, academic service, and research in areas such as health disparities, community-based care, and oral health in Central Appalachia and beyond.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Requirements:
- DMD or DDS degree from a CODA-accredited institution or equivalent.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain a license to practice dentistry in Kentucky or faculty limited licensure.
- Advanced training or experience in dental public health, community dentistry, or a related field.
- Previous experience supervising predoctoral dental education students at CODA-accredited institutions is preferred.
