Department Overview
As a Graduate Student Ambassador, your fundamental role will be to provide excellent customer service support to prospective and incoming graduate students who are exploring or entering graduate school at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. You will be the friendly, welcoming face of our unit.
In this role, you will also provide admissions support and troubleshooting, answer inquiries about programs throughout the campus, and meet with students to answer questions they may have at our Open House and recruitment events. Through a variety of means, you will help students feel connected to the campus and provide an authentic perspective on being a graduate student at the School of Public Health.
Function/Duties of Position- Engage with newly admitted students in Summer events designed for newly admitted students. Staffing and assisting with preparation for events.
- Staffing and assisting with preparation for events.
- Filing, preparing files, word processing, mail preparation and distribution, cross campus errands & deliveries, inventory of swag, data entry, scanning, maintenance of other office files, etc.
- Prepares, formats, and edits a wide range of documents, including flyers, brochures, signage, accessible PDFs, etc.
Required Qualifications
Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours)
Currently admitted PSU or OHSU graduate student in the School of Public Health; enrolled for a minimum of 5 credits for the current term.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to handle heavy student, faculty, staff, and public traffic both in person and on the telephone.
Word processing and data entry skills on a PC are required.
Understanding of confidentiality requirements and willing and able to observe them.
Must possess excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with multicultural and diverse faculty, staff, students and visitors. Verbal and written communication are crucial.
Must be able to work assigned hours
Must be customer service focused.
Must be a good problem solver and solutions oriented
Must be able to interact effectively
with the public and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be professional and have the ability to work with confidential materials
Must be punctual and reliable
Knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides), MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), MS Outlook (Teams, One Drive, Sharepoint)
Knowledge of graphic design software (Canva or Adobe Creative Suite) desirable
Ability to lift or move 10 lbs.
Ability & willingness to deliver items across campus
Ability to work at a computer for several hours a day
Ability and desire to learn new software
